WHERE'S BRITTANY!

WE'RE OFF!

I travel because I’d rather look back at my life, saying ‘I can’t believe I did that’ instead of ‘if only I had…’       Florine Bos

This blog is a travelogue of our long awaited trip to Brittany, France. It is primarily a way for us to remember this trip.  But some of our friends and family wish to follow our trip so we have opened it up to them.  It won't be great reporting and we won't guarantee to update it every day but we will do our best.

We have driven through Brittany in past trips to France to see some of the main sites but never really explored it.  Our interest grew after reading a series of novels based in Brittany. We fly out  on the 1st of Sept and arrive in Paris the next day.  We will pick up a car and head west. Tour for fifteen days.

Brittany is located on the Northwestern part of France.  It juts into the Atlantic like the head of a dragon or actually more like the head of my cousin Mort.

Brittany (or officially-Bretagne, or Breizh in Breton)
is about the size of half of Alabama with 4.5 million people.  Traditional homeland of the Breton people and one of the six Celtic nations. Homo sapiens settled there about 35,000 years ago.  It has one of the largest concentrations of important Megaliths in the world. We will be showing you a lot of old standing stones cause we really like getting stoned.  Current day Bretons are proud of their heritage and feel somewhat separate from the rest of France. Kind of like Alabamians.

We expect to be awestruck by the magnificent scenery, stunned by the beauty of the villages, delighted by wonderful food and drink and charmed by the Breton people.  Otherwise our expectations aren't too high...
