Day 3 Lehon, Comburg, Mont Dol

 "Continental" Breakfast in the Hotel.  We came to love the huge air light croissants.  Decaf cappuchino for D.  They had a gizmo where you can boil your own eggs! Eggzactly what I wanted! Vast selection of meats, cheese, and strange things we weren't quite sure what they were.




8:00  Went across the square to tour the old town in Dinan.

9:21 Lehon and  The Abby de Lehon  This beautiful little village sits at the base of the hill that Dinan is on. 9th Century (!!!) Abby.  A river runs through it.  Ruins of an ancient castle at the top of hill.  Cool.





12:00 Combourg Castle built around 1025.  Made famous by French writer Chateaubriand.  Descendants still living in this one.

12:30 Medieval city of Dol de Bretagne on the bay of Mont-Saint-Michelle



Mont Dol

This hill above Dol de Bretagne has an amazing view of the country side and bay.

That's Mont St. Michelle in the distance in the Bay  (We visited this on another trip with T)



Restored working windmill on Mont Dol.  These windmills were once common in the Brittany landscape. The abundance of rivers and streams meant that more reliable water mills were more frequently used.  But the windmills filled in the areas without falling water.
Cool


3:00 Antran  Medieval Town.  Note that many of the houses have shops below and lodging above.  This was common in the middle ages. And, of course still is in many places.

8:30 Back to Dinan  Excellent dinner but had to sit outside.  Nearly froze to death.  

"Americans must sit outside in the cold..."  (JK)




Not sure what this was actually...  but it was really good.  Oh yes...thymus.  (D had steak)

Day 2 Paris to Dinan - Wonderful places

  WE'RE HERE ! Arrived in Paris about 6:30 am.  Got our car at Sixt.  BMW 4 series.  We are used to the controls, know it drives well, gets good mileage.  Comfortable, Automatic.     10:00 am We fought our way out of Paris…about an hour to clear the traffic and headed west.  Mostly freeway, six lanes. Roads and signage are great but thank God for GPS.  Got to say the French drivers are better than ours.  They actually stay to the right and signal when changing lanes.  And the truck drivers stay right and are very  polite.  Nope not lying.  However the motorcycles zoom past between lanes and it scared the hell out of me.  You can see them on the left in the video.   1:00 pm As we got to the countryside we were delighted with the scenery. WHERE'S BRITTANY!

WE'RE OFF!  I travel because I’d rather look back at my life, saying ‘I can’t believe I did that’ instead of ‘if only I had…’       Florine Bos This blog is a travelogue of our long awaited trip to Brittany, France.  TEN POUNDS OF STUFF IN A FIVE POUND BAG.... Some of the family have asked us for details on how we pack for a trip like this. Most will have no interest in this so skip it.  We have some experience having between us visited over sixty countries and all of the states and provinces of North America. We have over two million air miles.  But our system may not work for others  When flying our rule is less is better. And it depends on where you’re going and what you’re going to do.  But for general touring in developed countries this is what works best for us in our dotage... Two moderate size rolling bags (semi hard sided) and one small rolling carry on, And a purse. We do not try and carry lots of stuff in our carry on. Just stuff we will need on the flight and irreplaceables.  Becomes a major burden schlepping it around, hard to stow, etc.  They rarely if ever lose luggage now and we  have an Apple Air Tag in our bags.  That way we can locate ...
