DAY 7 CAIRN DU BELENEZ (Unfinished)

11: 30 Up to cairn of Barnrnez.  Very impressive 6000 year old Neolithic burial chamber complex.  Biggest in Europe. 




1:00 Then fantastic lunch in little town on the way to Roscoff.  D had galette (crepe w ham and cheese and egg) I had a huge pot of exquisite mussels.. 





2:30  Port Town of 

4:00 Off to castle Rosanbo.  Another wonderful castle.  Grounds open but no one there.  Broke in and made ourselves comfortable.  





















Roscoff very touristy but neat. Beautiful Port city.   Had coffee at the port. Couldn’t get back to our car because of a wedding party blocking the alley to where our car was parked   Lot of nerve! They could have postponed that wedding !. 

5:00 Then to the Chateau Kerjean a wonderful 16th C fortified Chateau.  D tried to lock me in the dungeon. I had been bad, ogling some.. .. you  thought I was going to say mademoiselles.  No it was antique Jaguars. An antique Jag club was visiting.   Wow!  Regretted drooling on them.  




6:00 Then on to other Villages.  

This kind of "graffiti" on many walls.  Some incredible art.




6:30 Wonderful dinner in Morlaix.  





Back home to...wherever we are.

  10:39 Our first visit today was to the The Fortres de Largoet a Ruined castle was down a very long path through a wild wood. I was grumbling and DJ was delighted with the hundred mile hike.  But it was worth it. It was as classic and romantic a ruined castle as you could ask for.  Can you spot the ghost in the lower pictures? 3:00 Along the way to coast we stopped at this beautiful "narrow base" windmill. 3:30 Then to the port town of  4:00Beautiful drive along the coast  5;00 to the ancient walled town of Saint-Michel a fortified town built in the 1400s. 7:30 Back to La Roche Barnard for dinner at the port.

Medieval France and Nepal

 As I walked the medieval streets of Bretagne thinking about the life back then, I first thought life must have been brutal and hard.  But also it seemed somehow familiar.  Like I had maybe lived back then.  And then it dawned on me that in a way I had.  When we went to Nepal in 1955 it was a medieval kingdom.  There was no electricity to the average person.  Only one short paved road in all of Nepal.  There were Chateaus (Palaces), and common homes much like the medieval homes, dirt and cobblestone roads.  Magnificent Cathedrals (Temples).  Bullock carts, horses and largely agrarian.  Women washed their clothes in the streams and there was no indoor plumbing or indoor toilets except in the palaces of the aristocracy and a few special buildings. There was no modern medicine.  The people were largely illiterate.  They were generally well fed. And...mostly happy. I mention that because I was thinking that life must have been...

Day 2 Paris to Dinan - Wonderful places

  WE'RE HERE ! Arrived in Paris about 6:30 am.  Got our car at Sixt.  BMW 4 series.  We are used to the controls, know it drives well, gets good mileage.  Comfortable, Automatic.     10:00 am We fought our way out of Paris…about an hour to clear the traffic and headed west.  Mostly freeway, six lanes. Roads and signage are great but thank God for GPS.  Got to say the French drivers are better than ours.  They actually stay to the right and signal when changing lanes.  And the truck drivers stay right and are very  polite.  Nope not lying.  However the motorcycles zoom past between lanes and it scared the hell out of me.  You can see them on the left in the video.   1:00 pm As we got to the countryside we were delighted with the scenery.
