FEAR OF FLYING

😱Well here we are hurtling  thru the atmosphere at 40,000 feet at 600 miles an hour in a little aluminum tube. Doesn’t seem quite right. But I got over my fear a couple of million air miles ago and DJ never was afraid.  I was in line to get our seats upgraded at the airport when a man joined me in line.  His lower lip was quivering and I thought maybe he had a mental problem.  But he said  “This is my first time flying and I’m scared to death. I’m a Christian man but I’m really scared.” His faith just wasn't quite enough to reassure him apparently. Where are you going I asked?  “Indianapolis, my son sent  me a ticket. But I'm really scared!”  ‘Well’, I said ‘I understand, but I’ve flown literally millions of miles and it’s like getting on a bus for me now.  You are statistically safer than you were driving to the airport. But I know that doesn’t help.‘  “Well , he said, “it helps.”  “He reminded me again he was a Christian man,  but he said ‘I feel like a coward”.  I said, ‘ I think brave people are those that know fear and still do what they must. Just watch the flight attendants and if they seem ok, you will be Ok.  The plane may bump, and thump and grind and whine but it’s all okay.  You’ll be fine’.   He thanked me, shook my hand and introduced himself.  And then he flew off to Indianapolis. A brave man.

Day 2 Paris to Dinan - Wonderful places

  WE'RE HERE ! Arrived in Paris about 6:30 am.  Got our car at Sixt.  BMW 4 series.  We are used to the controls, know it drives well, gets good mileage.  Comfortable, Automatic.     10:00 am We fought our way out of Paris…about an hour to clear the traffic and headed west.  Mostly freeway, six lanes. Roads and signage are great but thank God for GPS.  Got to say the French drivers are better than ours.  They actually stay to the right and signal when changing lanes.  And the truck drivers stay right and are very  polite.  Nope not lying.  However the motorcycles zoom past between lanes and it scared the hell out of me.  You can see them on the left in the video.   1:00 pm As we got to the countryside we were delighted with the scenery. WHERE'S BRITTANY!

WE'RE OFF!  I travel because I’d rather look back at my life, saying ‘I can’t believe I did that’ instead of ‘if only I had…’       Florine Bos This blog is a travelogue of our long awaited trip to Brittany, France. It is primarily a way for us to remember this trip.  But some of our friends and family wish to follow our trip so we have opened it up to them.  It won't be great reporting and we won't guarantee to update it every day but we will do our best.  TEN POUNDS OF STUFF IN A FIVE POUND BAG.... Some of the family have asked us for details on how we pack for a trip like this. Most will have no interest in this so skip it.  We have some experience having between us visited over sixty countries and all of the states and provinces of North America. We have over two million air miles.  But our system may not work for others  When flying our rule is less is better. And it depends on where you’re going and what you’re going to do.  But for general touring in developed countries this is what works best for us in our dotage... Two moderate size rolling bags (semi hard sided) and one small rolling carry on, And a purse. We do not try and carry lots of stuff in our carry on. Just stuff we will need on the flight and irreplaceables.  Becomes a major burden schlepping it around, hard to stow, etc.  They rarely if ever lose luggage now and we  have an Apple Air Tag in our bags.  That way we can locate ...
