Day 1 We’re off!

 Well here we are in the Charlotte airport waiting in the boring area.  I mean boarding area.  Flight boards 4:20….errr4:40……5:09? Just kidding! Ok 5:30 and hot damn something’s happening!   Yes the inmates are lining up.  First is group one: professional athletes,politicians and gazillionaires.  We are group three.   Group three is very old people and screaming babies.  One carry on per person.  What? Everyone has two or three massive bags, rolling back pack, massive shoulder bags. So we are shuffling along and finally packed into our well pretty comfortable seats.  Seven hours and twenty minutes.  Good thing we really like each other….  So we’ve got all our swag from our bag and our drugs handy …let’s get this thing on the road.  Next stop Paris.

  WE'RE HERE ! Arrived in Paris about 6:30 am.  Got our car at Sixt.  BMW 4 series.  We are used to the controls, know it drives well, gets good mileage.  Comfortable, Automatic.     10:00 am We fought our way out of Paris…about an hour to clear the traffic and headed west.  Mostly freeway, six lanes. Roads and signage are great but thank God for GPS.  Got to say the French drivers are better than ours.  They actually stay to the right and signal when changing lanes.  And the truck drivers stay right and are very  polite.  Nope not lying.  However the motorcycles zoom past between lanes and it scared the hell out of me.  You can see them on the left in the video.   1:00 pm As we got to the countryside we were delighted with the scenery. WHERE'S BRITTANY!

WE'RE OFF!  I travel because I’d rather look back at my life, saying ‘I can’t believe I did that’ instead of ‘if only I had…’       Florine Bos This blog is a travelogue of our long awaited trip to Brittany, France. It is primarily a way for us to remember this trip.  But some of our friends and family wish to follow our trip so we have opened it up to them.  It won't be great reporting and we won't guarantee to update it every day but we will do our best. We have driven through Brittany in past trips to France to see some of the main sites but never really explored it.  Our interest grew after reading a series of novels based in Brittany.   We fly out  on the 1st of Sept and arrive in Paris the next day.  We will pick up a car and head west.  TEN POUNDS OF STUFF IN A FIVE POUND BAG.... Some of the family have asked us for details on how we pack for a trip like this. Most will have no interest in this so skip it.  We have some experience having between us visited over sixty countries and all of the states and provinces of North America. We have over two million air miles.  But our system may not work for others  When flying our rule is less is better. And it depends on where you’re going and what you’re going to do.  But for general touring in developed countries this is what works best for us in our dotage... Two moderate size rolling bags (semi hard sided) and one small rolling carry on, And a purse. We do not try and carry lots of stuff in our carry on. Just stuff we will need on the flight and irreplaceables.  Becomes a major burden schlepping it around, hard to stow, etc.  They rarely if ever lose luggage now and we  have an Apple Air Tag in our bags.  That way we can locate ...
